Using sevillanas, learn the basic movements necessary to dance flamenco. We’ll work on hands & arms coordination, compás, weight shifting of your body, etc.

Flamenco Basics: Six Week Course
Tuesdays through September 27, 6pm – 7pm
Description: An introduction to the beautiful, passionate, and profound gitano-Andalusian art form known as Flamenco. Perfect for all level of beginners, even those trying it for the first time, this class will examine flamenco posture, arm, hand and body technique, stylization, footwork technique and introduce basic elements of flamenco compás (rhythms). Ideal for absolute beginner through advanced beginners (students with up to one year of study). Flamenco or character dance shoes are best for class, but other sturdy footwear will work (i.e. low, thick-heeled shoes or boots approx. 1.5 – 3in high) and comfy clothing to allow movement like stretch pants, a long, flared skirt and a form fitting top.
Intermediate Flamenco Workshop
Saturdays: (August 23, September 13, September 27) 2:30-4:30pm
Description: This Intermediate Series is designed to focus intensively on flamenco technique through exercises and drills for braceo, zapateado, vueltas (turns) and improved posture, stylization and compás. Each workshop will include a technique power hour and introduce choreography that will be developed throughout the duration of the series.
